Richard Madeley has left I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, it’s been confirmed.

He was forced to withdraw from the show after breaking its ‘Covid bubble to be taken to hospital.

Early this morning Madeley was rushed to hospital – the TV presenter had been taking part in this year’s I’m a Celeb based in North Wales.

He wrote on Instagram: “Hello all! Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.

“Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue … even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life.”

Earlier today ITV confirmed that he had been rushed to hospital after falling ill on set, after the show’s medics rushed to the camp in Gwrych Castle to attend to the 65-year-old.

An ITV spokesman said: “Richard was unwell in the early hours and was immediately seen by our on-site medical team.

“He’s since been taken to hospital as a precaution, the health and safety of our campmates is our priority.”

Before becoming ill Madeley took part in The Castle Kitchen Nightmares trial on Wednesday’s show, where he slid head first into a sewer of rotten fruit and vegetables.

He was hunting for 10 hidden stars in a kitchen ‘full of castle critters’ after the public voted him for the task.

After the rotten food was dumped on him, he said: “That’s seven tons of fruit, I’ll never find a star in here. Oh, it’s freezing”, before adding: “Oh, this is really, really hard…there’s just no way of sorting the wheat from the [chaff]”.

Fish guts and offal was falling on him as he searched for the stars in the dark, and he managed to eventually find four of them.
