Richard Madeley has been rushed to hospital, ITV has confirmed this morning.

The TV presenter has been taking part in this year’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here as it films in North Wales.

According to ITV, he was taken to hospital after falling ill on set, and the show’s medics rushed to the camp in Gwrych Castle to attend to the 65-year-old.

An ITV spokesman said: “Richard was unwell in the early hours and was immediately seen by our on-site medical team.

“He’s since been taken to hospital as a precaution, the health and safety of our campmates is our priority.”

Before becoming ill Madeley took part in The Castle Kitchen Nightmares trial on Wednesday’s show, where he slid head first into a sewer of rotten fruit and vegetables.

He was hunting for 10 hidden stars in a kitchen ‘full of castle critters’ after the public voted for him to do the task.

After the rotten food was dumped on him, he said: “That’s seven tons of fruit, I’ll never find a star in here. Oh, it’s freezing”, before adding: “Oh, this is really, really hard…there’s just no way of sorting the wheat from the [chaff]”.

Fish guts and offal was falling on him as he searched for the stars in the dark, and he managed to eventually find four of them.
