A second arrest has been made in the investigation into the murder of university graduate Badri Issa in Moss Side last week, police have confirmed.
The 22-year-old was attacked on Moss Lane East, in Moss Side, shortly before 8pm last Wednesday (October 25th) where he suffered fatal stab wounds. Badri’s friend remained at the scene and called emergency services but sadly, he died in hospital later that evening.
A second 21-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and remains in custody being questioned, Greater Manchester Police have said.
Another 21-year-old, who was arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder, also remains in custody.
The force said they are still investigating with the hypothesis that there was a disturbance between the victim and his friend with two other men.
A police helicopter was immediately deployed following the stabbing to search for the two men who fled the scene and the force previously said they ‘do not believe this was a random attack’.
In a tribute paid to the young man described as ‘kind and friendly’, Badri’s family said: “Badri was well loved at home and in the community. He was respectful and lovely and always put others first.
“Badri had just graduated university and was looking forward to starting a career in mechanical engineering. He was kind and friendly and always smiling. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.”
There will be an increase in police officers in the local area as detectives continue to work to piece together the full circumstances while the initial stages of the investigation progresses.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are still in the early stages of our enquiries, but this arrest is a huge step in our murder investigation and will help to progress our understanding into the moments leading up to Badri’s death.
“We are continuing to appeal for any information, especially any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage you may have from Wednesday 25th October, please get in touch with us and know that any information will be dealt with the strictest of confidence.”
