Sky has announced the end of satellite dishes in the wake of its new TV service that streams content through just a WiFi connection.

Sky Glass is launching today, a revolutionary service that enables viewers to watch live television and stream channels and content through broadband with no need for a satellite dish.

The new television, known as the ‘Sky Glass’, will feature a 4K display, built-in Dolby Atmos, five different colour options. It will go on sale in the UK from October 18th, and will cost £649 for the 43-inch version and £1,048 for the 65-inch version.

However, Sky will also be offering a mobile-like deal where customers can pay a monthly fee of £13 for their TV contract.

The end of the satellite dish will mean that customers will no longer require convoluted installations at their homes, which can be impossible for those living in rented accommodation.

Instead, customers will simply have to connect their Sky Glass to their home WiFi connection and bring in their television connection through that. Sky has also claimed that the new TV takes just ten minutes to set up, and needs just one cable to work.

Customers will also be able to buy a small puck that can hook up to other screens in the house, so they can stream the same Sky content to normal TVs.

The traditional Sky box has also embraced streaming, with an internet connection that allows it to connect to platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

The Sky Glass goes on sale on October 18th, and is available for preorder now. For more information and to put in your order, visit the Sky website.
