Stagecoach offers job interviews to all Wilko staff facing redundancy

As Wilko stores close, bus firm Stagecoach has stepped in to offer job interviews to the budget retailer’s employees who have recently been made redundant.

Hundreds have already started to lose their jobs as Wilko collapses and while many will be worrying about their future and finances, Stagecoach is offering interviews to those affected, the company has said.

The firm has reached out to say it has a number of ‘immediate start’ bus driver vacancies available, as Stagecoach bosses say their ‘hearts go out’ to all those affected. 

The public transport company, which has several depots in Greater Manchester, added it ‘will process applications from Wilko staff quickly’.

It comes after a number of attempts to strike a deal and save the collapsed retailer fell through, with over 9,100 more redundancies announced on Monday, September 12th.

Lee Wasnidge, Managing Director at Stagecoach Manchester, said: “Our hearts at Stagecoach go out to those affected by the job losses at Wilko, particularly given the current economic climate.

“Our operations teams will process applications from Wilko staff quickly and can offer immediate starts with the aim of helping people get back into work as quickly as possible.

“As a bus operator transporting millions of customers every day, we are able to offer staff a secure job, guaranteed hours and good rates of pay.”

For those affected, immediate start bus driver vacancies are available across Greater Manchester, at Stagecoach Manchester depots in the following locations:

• Ashton-under-Lyne 
• Middleton
• Little Hulton 
• Hyde Road
• Stockport
• Sharston

Stagecoach Manchester also has bus driver vacancies to work out of Queens Road and Oldham Depots.
