A monitor captured the terrifying moment Storm Ciarán blew a bedroom window in with 100 mph winds while a mother and baby were sleeping.
Jessica O’Reilly said she is ‘grateful to be alive’ as the strong gust of wind shattered her window while she and her daughter slept.
The baby monitor captured it happening as the noise of 100 mph winds woke the mum in-time to grab three-month-old Penelope from the cot next to her, as the window blew inwards.
Jessica told ITV: “It felt like something was going to go wrong, and then the glass all came in. It was so loud.
“I just grabbed her [Penelope] and ran downstairs.
“There was a lot of glass that came in, and I’m just lucky that I grabbed her when I did because there was a load of glass in her bed, on the bed, all over on the floor, all over. So we’re just lucky to be alive really.”
Jessica, who lives in Jersey, said the footage was ‘hard to watch’, as she had to grab her baby and flee for safety.
After the lucky escape, she took her daughter to stay at a nearby hotel for the night.
Dozens of other residents were also forced to evacuate their homes on Wednesday night (November 1st).
A red weather warning is in place for the Channel Islands, which has been the worst hit by violent winds, which have also lashing the south of the UK.
Forceful winds have wreaked havoc; uprooting trees, blowing cars away, ripping the roofs off houses and blowing debris onto tracks.
