The 16-year-old darts player who blew audiences away in his run during the World Darts Championship has been offered kebabs for life at his favourite local takeaway.
The debutant brought unprecedented exposure to the darts world and gained the support of many across the nation as he made it to second place at the tournament held at Alexandra Palace.
Littler, from Padgate, endeared himself to the public not only with his outstanding performance but also because of his down-to-earth personality and speaking of his love of kebabs, quite regularly.
He is a regular customer at his local kebab shop Hot Spot in his hometown of Warrington. Littler’s rise to fame has brought a focus to his favourite kebab haunt, prompting the owners, Sihad and Hamido, to offer him free kebabs for life.
They brothers even named his regular kebab of choice after him, which is a wrap of doner meat, lettuce, onions and mayonnaise.
“Whenever he comes back to Warrington, he tends to order the ‘Luke The Nuke Wrap’,” said the manager of Hot Spot, Hamido – who prefers not to go by his surname and also runs a barbershop.
“We just call it the ‘Luke Wrap’ because we’re so used to making it for him. It’s every day, or most days, when he’s at home and not abroad competing.
“He’s a top lad and hopefully he’ll be coming back for some free haircuts and kebabs. That’s free for life, no doubt.
“We’ve said from day one, he’s going to be a world champion and he still will be. What he’s done at the age of 16 is incredible.”
Littler’s epic run came to an end in an outstanding and competitive match against world number one Luke Humphries in the final on Wednesday night.
Sihad used to go to school with Littler and has been supporting him throughout his darts success. “You could always tell he was going to make it and he played amazing. I don’t take that (final) as a loss – never,” he said.
“I will never take that as a loss from a 16-year-old, from someone my age, knowing they’re going out and giving so much.”
“It’s just incredible seeing someone like that, someone so young, doing so good in life and achieving so much,” he added.
