A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 5.57pm two fire engines,  a technical response unit and the water incident unit from Eccles were mobilised to Buckley Street in Droylsden to reports of someone in the water.

“Upon arrival the casualty was rescued from the water and was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service. We were there approximately one hour.”

The boy was taken to hospital but sadly died.

GMP is yet to release the teen’s age, and enquiries into what happened are ongoing.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
