The iconic Nokia 3310 has just turned 20 years old and rumour has it, it’s still fully charged.
It’s the first mobile phone we all had, keeping us busy with game after game of Snake and letting us one bell our mum when we got to our friend’s house down the road.
If the phone itself didn’t ignite enough nostalgia in you to last a lifetime, I bet ‘one bell’ just did. Remember when we had to pay for texts?!
Anyway, Nokia was – believe it or not – the biggest brand in terms of phones for a really long time.
The year was 2000. We’d all gotten over the fear of Y2K, calendars hadn’t stopped and the Millennium Bug became a thing of the past.
We’d all comfortably settled into the new millennia, that was until September 1st when everything changed – the Nokia 3310 was released!
Now known as ‘The Brick’, this phone was indestructible and featured a removable cover that came in an array of colours for the ultimate fashion statement.
You could also personalise your ringtone, including composing your own.
The iconic – and now tiny – 84 x 84-pixel screen was the perfect size for Snake.
One of the most famous things about this phone though was definitely the battery life. You could probably rummage through ‘that’ drawer and find your old Nokia with 66% charge still.
One of the selling points was a sim card that could store up to 250 contacts and the fact it could work on a European network. Perfect for all those holidays to Tenerife.
Long live the Nokia 3310. If only they still made phones as reliable as you these days…
