Two women from Ashton hit with huge fines for refusing to self-isolate after holiday in Spain

Two women who travelled to Spain for a holiday and refused to self-isolate on their return have been fined.

Two women from Ashton-under-Lyne were fined £1,000 each for breaking the quarantine rules and failing to self-isolate after returning home from a holiday in Spain.

The current rules require anyone returning from Spain to self-isolate for 14 days, but police said the women ‘continued with their day-to-day life’ after a long weekend away.

One of the women attended work several times, lying to her employer and the other attended a ‘non-urgent’ hospital appointment, according to police.

GMP Tameside North and East posted the news on Facebook stating: “Another two £1,000 fines issued for breaching quarantine regulations after returning from Spain.

“Two females from the Ashton area decided that the rules did not apply to them and after a long weekend away, they refused to quarantine.

“They have continued with their day to day life, attending a hospital appointment (which was not urgent and could easily have been re-arranged) and the other went to work several times and has lied to their employer about returning from abroad.

“Quarantine is inconvenient but if you are not prepared to do it do not go abroad. It’s very simple.

“Officers will be on duty tonight ensuring that the pubs and takeaways are adhering to the Covid rules. PS Jackson.”
