From today, adults must show a Covid pass in order to enter nightclubs and other large venues and events.

The new measures coming into force today mean those attending certain venues will need to show proof of double-vaccination, or a negative PCR or a negative lateral flow test from the last forty-eight hours.

This rule applies to all nightclubs, indoor unseated venues with a capacity of more than 500 people, unseated outdoor venues that hold more than 4,000 people, and any venue with more than 10,000 people.

Only two doses of the vaccine are required for a valid Covid pass but, in the New Year, the requirement will be moved up to three jabs.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said in parliament yesterday: “Once all adults have had a reasonable chance to get their booster jab, we intend to change this exemption to require a booster dose.”

He added: “We are turbocharging the vaccine rollout to ensure as many people as possible can get boosted now as we continue our fight against the Omicron variant.”

However, nightclub bosses across Manchester have been expressing their concern regarding the new rules, with many saying they have been ‘unfairly targeted’.

Greater Manchester’s night time economy advisor Sacha Lord previously said the government ‘wiped out live gigs for a whole generation’ with the introduction of Covid passports.

He told BBC News over the summer: “I am not a scientist or a doctor, but I am deeply concerned by the discriminatory nature for those who either can’t have the vaccine for medical reasons or age, or who do not want to.

“With this one move, the Government appears to have wiped out live gigs for a whole generation.”

This comes after all eleven countries on the red list were removed at 4am this morning following the health secretary’s admission that the list was less effective in slowing the incursion’ of the Omicron variant.

This means that passengers travelling from those particular locations will no longer have to isolate in a government-approved quarantine hotel for ten days.
