There’s currently a weather warning in place for Greater Manchester this afternoon and into the evening.

According to the Met Office thunderstorms are forecast across our entire region, as well as in the rest of the North West, with a yellow weather warning in place.

Forecasters say the stormy weather is likely to arrive this afternoon, and the warning is in place for between 1pm and 9pm today, Monday June 15th.

Met Office

The Met Office site warns that flooding of a few businesses and homes is ‘likely’, while lightning could also damage some structures, and there may be hail in some areas.

If you’re driving be careful, as conditions might be affected by the bad weather, with train delays also possible.

There could also be short term power loss as well as the loss of other services, according to forecasters.

The Met Office website says: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out this afternoon before slowly fading this evening.

“Whilst not all places will be affected by these shower and thunderstorms, where they do occur torrential downpours are possible. 15 to 25 mm rain may fall in an hour in some places whilst a few spots could see 30 to 40 mm rain in two or three hours.

“Frequent lightning is possible and a few places may see some hail.”
