Things will be very different.

Wetherspoons has revealed what we can expect to see in its pubs when they swing open the doors once again.

Everyone was given a glimmer of hope last week as the Prime Minister stated pubs may be able to open sooner than they had originally planned.

The statement was based on reviews of the 2-metre social distancing rule, which could be halved in attempts to get the hospitality industry back in business quicker than planned.

Last month, we got a glimpse of what we could expect from pubs post-lockdown, when a Buckinghamshire pub revamped its layout as a prototype for a socially distanced boozer.

It saw plastic screens, disposable menus and ordering on an app.

Mossy Well in North London has been chosen as the prototype for Wetherspoons. The pub now incorporates screens at tills, disposable paper menus, and floor signs to help keep distancing measures well practised.

All tables will also be separated by screens to minimise any social contact between groups of people.

The pub chain already announced they will be slimming down the menu and providing disposable sachets of sauces rather than the usual condiment bottles.

Customers will be encouraged to order and pay through the free Wetherspoons app where possible to further reduce contact.

The pub will be putting different entrance and exit ways in where possible, and hand sanitising stations on the way in and on the way out.

There will also be a dedicated member of staff that will be sanitising all contact points such as door handles, allergen information screens, card machines and hand rails during open hours.

Spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We have worked tirelessly. Our initial investment will ensure our pubs will be safe for staff and customers.

“Our pubs might look a bit different when they reopen, but they will be as welcoming as ever.”
