The family of 22-year-old Ellie Horrocks who has been in a coma after her buggy overturned in Cyprus has said she has now woken up.

Ellie Horrocks was rushed to hospital after she allegedly swerved to avoid an oncoming car causing her buggy to overturn in the popular holiday resort of Ayia Napa on Monday, June 26th.

The young woman from Westhoughton, in Bolton, was rushed to Nicosia Hospital where doctors put her into a medically induced coma after she suffered a serious head injury as well as fractures to her spinal cord and clavicle.

Ellie’s mum Leanne Horrocks set up a Go Fund Me page to raise the money to pay for her daughter’s continued treatment and arrange for an air ambulance to bring her back to the UK to be with her family.

The cost of an air ambulance works out at around £60,000 with added medical costs on top. The fundraiser has a target of £70,000 with £69,452 already being achieved.

In an update added to the Go Fund Me page yesterday (July 3rd), Leanne wrote that Ellie had woken up from her coma and that the doctor is pleased with her progress although she still has a long road to recovery.

Leanne penned: “The family is pleased to inform you that Ellie has now come out of her coma. The doctor is pleased with her progress although she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

“Nicosia hospital are liaising with the family and a UK hospital in order that arrangements can be made to bring Ellie back home via air ambulance. We will update again as soon as we can.

“Thank you for your kind words and continued support.”

Ellie’s auntie Sarah told the Manchester Evening News that her ‘amazing’ and ‘creative’ niece moved to Ayia Napa in May to work at a bar and ‘experience life’.

Sarah said: “She’s young so she likes going out with her friends, she’s got loads and loads of friends, but she’s also just a very creative person.

“She’s a really, really well-loved girl.”

Sarah said her niece had hired the buggy to go and see the sun set on another part of the resort when she was forced to swerve and avoid an oncoming car.

Many people who have donated money to help bring Ellie home have also left kind messages of support on the fundraising page.

Greater Manchester Police

Two men have now been charged with murder, following the discovery of a human torso in Kersal Dale.

As well as that, more suspected human remains were also discovered this morning, Monday April 29th, in an alleyway close to the railway lines off Worsley Road, Eccles.

This follows earlier discoveries of human remains over the past three weeks, at Kersal Dale, Blackleach Reservoir and Colliery Wood, all in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police

Michal Jaroslaw Polchowski (25/04/1956) and Marcin Majerkiewicz (10/04/1982) both of Worsley Road, Eccles, have been charged with murder.

They are set to appear at Tameside Magistrates Court this afternoon.

While formal identification is still ongoing, the remains found at Kersal Dale are believed to be of a local man in his 60s. The remains found at the other three locations are still to be tested, but police are confident they belong to the same victim.

ACC Sarah Jackson said: “We have had large numbers of officers, staff and specialists working diligently on this investigation over the last three weeks. It has been very much a large, collective effort, with the victim and family at the heart of it from the outset.

“We have specially trained officers deployed to support the family as they come to terms with this tragic news. They are aware of this morning’s further discovery and will continue to be kept up to date with how we are progressing.

“Despite the charges brought today, our work is far from over.

“The scenes we already have established in Bury and Salford will remain in place for much of this week whilst our searches and enquiries continue. Local officers will continue to patrol the impacted areas to provide reassurance.

“We will continue following every line of enquiry to recover and reunite the victim with his family, bringing a dignified end to this terrible scenario.

“I’d like to thank the communities of Salford and beyond for their cooperation throughout this investigation. I know this incident has come as a shock, and the support we’ve had from those in the area is very much appreciated.”
