Cornwall tourism boss slams locals for ‘unforgivable’ motorway sign aimed at tourists

Cornwall has opened the gates to allow holidaymakers into the popular tourist destination, but some of the locals aren’t too happy. 

A picture of three people stood on a bridge over the A30 in Bodmin holding a sign that reads ‘turn around and f*** off’ has gone viral. 

Cornwall’s tourism chief Malcolm Bell wasn’t best pleased with the greeting from the locals. He spoke to Cornwall Live and said: “I don’t like to see signs like the one we saw on the A30 yesterday. It is being offensive to a large group of people.

“I find it unforgivable. It’s accusing people before they even arrive.

“We are battling to save thousands of jobs. Let’s welcome our customers, who will share their money to keep Cornish people in jobs.”

Many reports say that most of the locals were friendly and welcoming to tourists over the weekend. 

On the South Coast of Devon, a bloke in Dawlish was even photographed holding a much nicer sign that said ‘welcome holidaymakers’. 

However, the welcoming tone was pretty much ruined by the fact he was dressed up as the Grim Reaper.

Until now Cornwall has been completely shut off from holidaymakers in efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus. Now however, people are being welcomed back to get the tourism sector, which is usually booming this time of year in the area, back on its feet. 

Naturally, though, some people are concerned it’s too soon.
