The travel rules for all British tourists heading to Spain for a bit of winter sun have now changed.

From today, February 1st, Spain will only permit entry to tourists who can prove they were fully vaccinated against Covid within the last 270 days – that means a person must have received their second jab by Friday May 7th 2021.

And anyone who received their second dose more than nine months ago must have had a third booster jab from at least fourteen days ago to be permitted entry.

A negative Covid test and proof of recovery will no longer be accepted as a valid form of entry.

Those planning to travel with children may run into difficulty, however, as Spain requires all children to be fully vaccinated in order to enter – many children between the ages of twelve and seventeen are yet to be vaccinated under current UK regulations.

Though it is worth noting that, unlike the UK, a number destinations popular with tourists across Spain continue to operate under strict Covid regulations.

Over in the Balearic Islands, tourist hotspots like Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca are on Level 3 Covid alert, the second highest risk level. Under Level 3 rules, only two people can sit together at a restaurant, regardless of whether they are from the same household.

The Canary Islands are also operating under various Covid restrictions, with Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria all being under the highest level of Covid alert at Level 4.

This comes just days before all Covid testing requirements for vaccinated travellers arriving into the UK are to be scrapped.

Last week, the government confirmed that, from 4am on February 11th, the ‘day two’ lateral flow test that double-vaccinated arrivals must currently undertake will no longer be necessary.

Boris Johnson said, as per The Independent: “You will see changes so that people arriving no longer have to take tests if they have been vaccinated, if they have been double vaccinated.

“Thanks to the tough decisions, I think people will agree we got the big calls right… we are now moving through the Omicron wave. So what we’re doing on travel to show this country is open for business, people arriving no longer have to take tests if they’ve been double vaccinated.”
