Alton Towers has announced the closure of its Nemesis rollercoaster this November.

Nemesis has been a firm favourite amongst thrill seekers since its opening in 1994, with riders experiencing speeds of 50mph and a 3.5 G-force, all around an inverted track of ‘around 250 tonnes of tangled steel’.

However, in a shock social media post today, the theme park announced that Nemesis will be closing on November 6th.

The brief announcement reads: “By order of the Phalanx. Nemesis is closing.

“You have until 6th November to ride.”

Alton Towers fans were dismayed by the announcement, with many expressing their shock and outrage over the unexpected closure.

One person commented: “Noooo [sic] it’s the only ride I can handle that goes upside down… glad I was there this year then.”

Another reminisced: “The best ride there… This ride was the first rollercoaster I ever went on and I felt I had got over my fear of fast rides.”

However, thrill-seekers needn’t worry too much as, according to Towers Times – a community for fans of the theme park – Nemesis will be making a comeback in 2024.

Towers Times claims that, back in January, Alton Towers submitted an application to confirm the lawfulness of maintenance works to Nemesis with the intention of increasing the rollercoaster’s lifespan.

The application proposed that the majority of the roller coaster’s track sections will be replaced, including eighty-nine of the 117 supports, along with work to strengthen and improve the foundations.

Although no timeline for the maintenance work has been published, the application says it expects the work to be completed in time for the 2024 season, when the ride will be thirty years old.

Therefore, the ride will be closed throughout 2023 and towards the end of the 2022 season to allow the maintenance works to begin.
