Alton Towers is on the look out for a group of ‘test specimens’ to ride Nemesis for one last time before its planned closure next month.
Alton Towers fans were left devastated last month when it was announced the long-standing rollercoaster would be closing to undergo much-needed track refurbishments.
The ride, which was opened in 1994, will close on November 6th, and is expected to stay that way until mid 2024.
While Alton Towers hasn’t offered any more details on the rollercoaster’s refurb, it is now said to be on the hunt for ‘test specimens’ to ride Nemesis for one final time.
And better yet, these lucky ‘specimens’ will get to ride Nemesis with none other than the rollercoaster’s developer John Wardley.
The theme park said in a statement: “This elite organisation claims Nemesis – the beast that the ride pins down – is behaving abnormally.
“They are seeking last riders which they call ‘final test specimens’ to assist with investigations, and they are refusing to comment any further at this point.”
The Last Ride competition will pick fourteen applicants at random to take part in the final ride on November 6th.
Winners will also receive a VIP Alton Towers experience for up to two people, including complimentary access to the theme park for the day, as well as a Gold Fast-Track Pass.
Also included in the package is a meet and greet with Wardley, as well as a souvenir goodie bag.
Speaking about the competition, Kate McBirnie, Head of Guest Excellence at Alton Towers Resort, told the Daily Mail: “We know that a place on Nemesis’ last ride is much-coveted.
“It’s a moment in history for the famous ride and we can’t think of a better way to honour this occasion than giving fans the opportunity to be part of this special event… As you’d expect we will be delivering ‘thrilliant’ surprises during the day.”
