Angry mum demands Tesco remove ‘weird’ Valentine’s cards for kids
She says anyone who buys one should be ‘locked up’.
An angry mum has demanded Tesco remove its ‘weird’ Valentine’s Day cards aimed at children.
Nicola was horrified to see the shelves stacked with the cards, saying she’d ‘punch’ anyone who sent her kid a Valentine’s Day card in the face, adding that she doesn’t think it’s ‘normal’.
Tesco stocks a range of cards for children to send to parents and vice versa, including Frozen and Spider-Man ones, and Nicola noticed them when she visited a branch of the supermarket with her eight-year-old son.

Nicola told Plymouth Live she thinks Valentine’s Day is just for adults, and accused the cards of being ‘an attempt to normalise abnormal relationships with children’, adding that people who send them ‘need locking up’.
The 32-year-old mum raised the issue with both staff and customer service, who told her they wouldn’t be removing the cards, saying that parents show their affection in different ways.
Nicola said: “There’s one that says, ‘Daddy loves you lots like jelly tots’, that’s weird.
“This is not normal. Valentine’s Day is for lovers. It’s not something that you should involve children in.
“It’s not something that a normal person would think of sending a child. It’s wrong. [Tesco] told me they’re not going to remove them from the shelves. It’s really weird, it doesn’t quite sit right.”

She added: “[Tesco] told me that some parents show their affection in different ways, but I think they need locking up. As a parent, if anyone was to give my son that card I’d be punching them in the face. The children’s ones I do not think are appropriate.”
“In my opinion Valentine’s Day has always been about relationships and lovers, not children especially young children which I believe these cards are aimed at due to the pictures and wording.
“I believe primary schools should ban Valentine’s Day as I feel the children are too young to really understand the concept of relationships, they should let children be children.”
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We provide a range of cards so that everyone can take part in Valentine’s day.”
