Scientists have come forward with very promising findings about the benefits cheese has upon your chances of survival.
So, when you’re next tucking into your eighth Babybell of the day or indulging in that extra slice of Brie, try not to feel too guilty about it.
Over the course of eleven years, Professor Maciej Banach of the University of Łódź in Poland analysed cheese consumption in over 20,000 adults – and let me tell you, the results are very interesting.

Banach and his innovative team of researchers concluded that ‘cheese and yogurt were found to protect against both total mortality – death from any cause – and mortality from cerebrovascular causes.’ Who’d have thought it?
Cheese could potentially be the armour that will protect us from a wide range of serious illnesses, including stroke and heart attack, according to the European Society of Cardiology, who presented the research.
In total, cheese was associated with an 8% lower total mortality risk.

The research summary reads: “With the exception of milk, which appears to increase the risk of CHD, dairy products have been found to protect against both total mortality and mortality from cerebrovascular causes
“Therefore, current guidelines to limit consumption of dairy products, especially cheese and yogurt, should be relaxed; at the same time, the drinking of non-fat or low-fat milk should be recommended, especially for those who consume large quantities of milk.”
So there you have it: cheese, which has long been unfairly demonised as unhealthy, is actually more robust than we’ve been believing all these years. I reckon’s time to make up for it, don’t you think?
