Coronation Street actor Jack Shepherd has unveiled a brand new David Platt waxwork at Blackpool’s Madame Tussauds.

Shepherd, who has played the role of Platt for over twenty years, said he was ‘honoured’ to be immortalised in wax at the famous waxwork museum when personally unveiling the figurine last week.

Coming face-to-face with the waxwork, he marvelled at the realism of it, adding that the finer details were ‘surreal’.

Shepherd said: “Seeing the figure face-to-face was incredibly surreal, it looks so much like me and really captures the essence of David Platt’s character.

“I went to Madame Tussauds in 1997 and loved it, and remember thinking ‘imagine if I’m ever in it.’ It’s a real honour. It really is.

“I’m blown away. There’s big characters, legends in here, Ken, Deirdre, Jack and Vera- Gail’s not even in there.”

Shepherd also revealed that the hair used on his waxwork was the same used on the Leonardo DiCaprio figurine in London’s Madame Tussauds.

He added: “When I went down to London so that they could do the skin match they said ‘Oh, okay, so your hair matches Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I’ve got DiCaprio’s hair and apparently Justin Bieber’s eyes. Bet Leonardo and Justin will be over the moon if they knew!”

Kyle Woodcock, Senior Attractions Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool, added: “It was an honour to have Jack at Madame Tussauds Blackpool.

“Seeing him side-by-side the wax version of himself really was uncanny. I am sure his loyal Corrie fanbase – and lots of other people too – will jump at the chance to come and see it.”

Each Madame Tussauds waxwork takes around 800 hours to complete by a team of twenty-five artists. This includes 350 hours to sculpt the figure, 187 hours to insert a head of hair and thirty hours to make a set of teeth.
