A man has gone viral after he popped the question to his girlfriend during England’s international match against Pakistan at the Old Trafford cricket ground yesterday.

The groom-to-be, who was seen sporting a retro England shirt, picked the perfect moment to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, with Sky Sports broadcasting the whole thing.

And, to make the moment even more special, the broadcaster mimicked the TV umpire process used in cricket, showing a ‘decision pending’ banner before replacing it with ‘she said yes!’

After the elated bride-to-be said yes, the couple could be seen sharing an embrace as the 21,000 large crowd – and the clearly excited man sitting directly next to them – cheered their engagement.

Of course, the proposal was quick to go viral on Twitter, with countless people – cricket fans and non-cricket fans alike – taking to the platform to offer their congratulations.

One Twitter user wrote: “Marriage proposal at Old Trafford. Decision Pending (she said yes) Cricket is a great sport. Brings people together. Loads Eng & Pak fans applauding as one.”

Another wrote: “Old Trafford rocking, fans loving it, Bumble singing Sweet Caroline, marriage proposal, 3 pitch invasions, I swear down T20 cricket is the best sport in the world.”

And that wasn’t the only magical moment of the match: England defied all the odds and beat Pakistan in a final Twenty20, ultimately winning the series 2-1.

It was a tremendous event for cricket fans, which was the first match back in the grounds since the easing of lockdown restrictions earlier this week.
