Cristiano Ronaldo has been sent messages of love and support after sharing a photo with his newborn daughter.
Two weeks ago, the Manchester United footballer and his partner Georgina Rodríguez shared the devastating news that their newborn son had died at birth on April 18th.
Their twin daughter survived and, over the weekend, Ronaldo shared a photo of him cradling the baby – whose name is yet to be announced – alongside the caption: “Forever Love”.
The photo, which saw the newborn sleeping in his arms wearing a knitted hat, was met with an outpouring of love and support from thousands of Ronaldo’s followers.
United team-mates including Marcus Rashford sent red heart emojis in support, while others posted messages complimenting the ‘beautiful’ photo.
Ronaldo and Georgina were able to bring home their newest addition just over a week ago, with them capturing their first moments at home with their daughter and four older children.
They noted their gratitude for ‘the life that we’ve just welcomed into this world’, with the footballer writing in an Instagram caption: “Home sweet home. Gio and our baby girl are finally together with us.
“We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures. Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family.
“Now it’s time to be grateful for the life that we’ve just welcomed into this world.”
Their statement read: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest paint that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
Ronaldo went on to thank the doctors and nurses for ‘all their expert care and support’, before asking for privacy during this ‘very difficult time’.
The statement concluded: “Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
