Football fans were seen sipping pints at their local pub at 7 o’clock this morning ahead of England’s Euros match against Germany.

In a segment on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the eager fans from Sheffield were seen sitting in a beer garden with full pints and England shirts proudly on display.

Several viewers took to Twitter to rejoice at the scenes, with one social media user snapping a photo and writing: “It’s 7.11am and England fans are in the pub already. That’s the most English thing I’ve seen for weeks.”

I suppose it’s never too early on match day…

The ridiculous scenes come just one day after the Trades Union Congress (TUC) publicly urged all employers across the country to allow their staff to finish early to make it home – or to the pub – in time for the 5pm kick off.

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Bosses should talk to their staff and try to let people who want to watch games do so – at work or at home – and then claim back the time afterwards.

“Whether it’s about major sporting events like Euro 2020, attending a medical appointment or picking up the kids from school, allowing people more flexibility in how and when they do their work makes them happier.

“It cuts absenteeism and raises productivity.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself.

England will take on Germany at 5pm tonight at Wembley Stadium, as part of the highly-anticipated knock-out stage of Euro 2020.
