A pair of friends have explained how ‘one pint’ on a Friday afternoon somehow wound up on an impromptu flight to Ibiza.

Dan Evans and Alex Stubbs went for a quick pint in Merthyr, just north of Cardiff, with the promise to be home by 11:30pm that night.

However, their evening took a swift turn when a fellow punter suggested the pair go to Magaluf in Majorca for a very last minute holiday, which they hastily quickly agreed to.

After running home to grab their passports and phone chargers, they caught a taxi to Cardiff Airport, where they found the next Majorca flight to be fully booked.

Undeterred, the pair decided to settle on the next best thing and booked themselves onto a soon-departing flight to Ibiza.

Dan, twenty-three, told Wales Online: “We stopped off at home to collect our passports and phone chargers, and then headed to the airport, when we got there though the Majorca flight was fully-booked, but there was a flight to Ibiza, so we booked ourselves on to that one.”

He said that as soon as they landed in Ibiza, they bought a pair of shorts and, with no accommodation booked, decided to head straight to the nearest bar.

He explained: “We literally partied the whole weekend, and then when the sun came up on Sunday morning we had to think about how we were going to get home.”

However, getting back home proved to be a bit of a challenge at such short notice, with Dan revealing their only option was to get on a flight to London Stanstead.

He said: “It was more difficult getting a plane back, but we sorted one, flew back into London in plenty of time to be at work on Monday.

“It was a bit of a shock to the system, but it was all worth it. We have no regrets and will probably do it again, but it might be a few years before we can do it again.”

That puts all of our own spontaneous weekends to shame, doesn’t it?
