Celebrity chef Dave Myers has said he misses his signature beard as he continues to undergo chemotherapy.

Myers, who makes up one half of Northern cooking duo Hairy Bikers with friend Simon King, revealed his cancer diagnosis in May this year, where he vowed to beat the illness.

While he didn’t specify his exact diagnosis, the sixty-four-year-old said the ‘prognosis is okay’ and is trying to keep upbeat.

And during a more recent update on his Agony Uncles podcast, the chef admitted that he has experienced hair loss as a result of his chemotherapy.

He said of the absence of his famous facial hair: “It’s the beard I miss, though. I just miss having my beard, the feeling of it, because your skin’s different and all peachy.

“I’m missing my beard, but doing alright. I was born with that beard.”

He added: “No, I want my beard back. I’m alright with my hair – I think the bald head and beard’s the way to go for a biker.”

This is one of the first updates Myers has given since his cancer diagnosis four months ago. He said on his podcast at the time: “Anyway Kingy, I’ve got to come clean now – I haven’t been too well recently and basically, I’ve got to have some chemo.

“You know all this anyway, so this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I’m not going to be filming, some of the festivals I’m not going to be able to go to, some may be okay but this year’s a bit of a write off for us.”

Myers seemed to be in high spirits despite the news, with him saying on the podcast that he ‘may be a baldy biker for a while’, adding that ‘it’s simply something I have to live with’.

King recently gave an update on his friend’s progress, with him saying at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival: “I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support, all the messages really do not go unnoticed.

“He’s doing canny but as you appreciate he’s right in the trenches of it all at the minute but he’s getting there, thank God.”
