Manchester City player Jack Grealish celebrated winning the treble with his teammates by going on a mega 48-hour bender with ‘no sleep’.
After their Champions League 1-0 victory against Inter Milan in Istanbul on Saturday night (June 10th), the players were relieved and emotional.
But, it didn’t take long before the celebrations began and they were popping bottles of champagne, dancing, singing and joking around.
As the tears of relief had stopped streaming and excitement kicked-in, Grealish led a train of chanting squad members around the locker room while carrying a speaker and belting out Fleetwood Mac lyrics, ‘can you hear me callin’ out your name…’ – getting his teammates in the party spirit.
Later, the football star was pictured as he sat down holding the UEFA Champions League trophy in the locker room looking in a bit of a daze. Surrounded by empty cans of Heineken at his feet, he was still wearing his football kit — clearly too busy enjoying himself to take a shower and change out of it.
After a little breather, he seemed to get a second wind and managed to rally up a number of City players as they headed out of the stadium to continue their well-deserved celebrations into the early hours.
The next morning (June 11th), still chanting and in good spirits, Grealish emerged to join his teammates as they boarded the flight back to Manchester. One fan joked the player ‘looked like he didn’t have a clue what planet he’s on’.
From there, he and some of the other squad members hopped on a private jet to the party island of Ibiza where, according to Mail Online, they stayed at the adults-only Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel in the resort of Playa d’en Bossa.
Pictures circulated on social media showing defender Kyle Walker propping up Grealish, who was hiding under a hoodie, as they were walking from the hotel.
According to reports, staff also offered the midfielder a wheelchair to get around in after several long hours of being on the sesh.
After a whirlwind trip to the Spanish island, the players knew their fans were waiting for them back home for an open top bus parade around town on Monday (June 12th), and they headed back home.
At some point throughout the chaos, it appeared Grealish had managed to change out of his kit but was seen back in Manchester Airport still wearing the same top he had on from the night before — nice!
Later, hopefully showered and fresh — but at this point who knows? — the City squad were in Manchester city centre as they stood on the top deck of an open top bus for the parade to celebrate the treble with their fans.
Grealish was seen still partying with the rest of the team as they sprayed champagne everywhere, and striker Haaland poured a bottle over Grealish’s head.
The heavens opened, and after a 23-day stretch of pure sunshine over Manchester, it lashed on the City parade during a thunderstorm.
But the weather did not deter fans nor the squad from their celebrations. When the bus pulled up at the stage and player presentations were over, Grealish and his teammates continued to party, sharing videos on Instagram stories as they had a good time.
Speaking to fans in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square, Grealish admitted that the time since the win had been ‘the best day and night’.
“To be fair I don’t think I’ve had any sleep,” he said.
He also told fans he’s ‘a turkey, and the turkey needs feeding’, putting up a picture of the farm animal on his Instagram stories.
The player was seen wearing a hi-vis jacket at some point later on, potentially so he didn’t get lost amid the crowds and chaos.
Towards the end of the night Grealish showed himself grinning on stage in front of hundreds of cheering supporters, with a caption reading: “Naaaaaaah what a club man.”
All has gone quiet on the social media and stories front so we’re guessing that Grealish has finally got some sleep, a shower and a change. After winning a treble, the players deserve to enjoy an epic celebration.
Speaking after the win, Grealish made clear what it means to him: “This is just what you work your whole life for. I’m so happy, man.”
