Johnny Depp gets on stage for surprise gig appearance at Northern venue after defamation trial
The actor’s lawyer gave her closing argument just days ago
Johnny Depp surprised concert-goers in Sheffield last night with an impromptu performance with Jeff Beck.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, who has been embroiled in a highly publicised defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard for the last six weeks, joined Beck on stage at Sheffield City Hall for a rendition of ‘Isolation’.
The pair recorded the cover of John Lennon’s track together back in 2020.
Many fans couldn’t believe that Depp could take to the stage so soon after the trial, with many taking to social media to express their shock over the surprise appearance.
One social media user wrote: “I didn’t realise Friday was the last day for Depp in Virginia. He is performing with Jeff Beck in UK today. So, onward for him.”
Another commented: “Who’d have thought Johnny Depp would be with Jeff Beck in Sheffield?”
While a third wrote: “He finally gets to breathe and do what he loves! Good for him.”
The concert appearance came just days after Depp’s legal team entered their closing statements in his defamation case against Amber Heard.
Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation after she penned an op-ed for the Washington Post in which she claimed she was a survivor of domestic abuse.
While he wasn’t named explicitly in the article, Depp claimed the piece ruined his reputation.
In 2020, the actor also sued The Sun newspaper for libel after they branded him as a ‘wife beater’ in an article published about Heard’s allegations.
However, he lost the case and is now required to pay a substantial amount of money in legal costs to News Group Newspapers.
A spokesperson for The Sun later said: “The Sun has stood up and campaigned for the victims of domestic abuse for over twenty years.
“Domestic abuse victims must never be silenced and we thank the Judge for his careful consideration and thank Amber Heard for her courage in giving evidence to the court.”
