Landlord asks tenants to bring their own floor when they move into unfurnished house

‘The landlord basically wants you to pay their mortgage and carpet their entire house’

On the surface, this one-bedroom end-of-terrace house looks like the ideal property for those looking to rent in Littleborough.

Described as ‘well appointed’, the house is situated in a highly sought after residential location near shops and close to the open countryside. It also comes with gas central heating and double glazing.

And with rent priced at just £475 per month, many would argue that this unfurnished property is a complete steal among an array of costly rental properties across the region.

Well, there is one small catch.

While the property was indeed listed as unfurnished, the landlord apparently expected future tenants to provide their own flooring, whether it be carpet, laminate flooring or floorboards.

Because, as the photographs demonstrate, there are no carpets – or any adequate flooring, for that matter – throughout the house, with bare floors in the lounge and bedroom and untreated wooden stairs.

A listing for the property read, as per The Mirror: “Please be aware the property is let unfurnished and any successful applicant would be expected to put their own flooring in.

“Available now, no pets.”

Of course, people have been left completely baffled by the landlord’s expectations, with many slamming them as a ‘chancer’ and ‘p**s artist’.

Actress Angela Hazeldine came across the listing while looking for somewhere to rent, and shared it onto Twitter, writing: “Just looking at flats to rent and one of them says flat is ‘unfurnished’ renter would be expected to ‘put own flooring in’… That’s not a thing surely.”

She also tweeted RightMove directly, questioning: “RightMove how is this allowed? The landlord basically wants you to pay their mortgage and carpet their entire house.

“On what planet is this acceptable?”

A spokesman for RightMove has since confirmed the property listing had been taken down, stating: “This listing has been removed from RightMove. “
