He’s no Ted Hastings…

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been roasted by Line of Duty’s creator Jed Mercurio after he was seen in full police gear for a press photo shoot.

Johnson became the laughing stock of the nation yesterday when photos from his early morning drugs raid with Merseyside Police started circulating on social media.

The PM could be seen in full police get-up, including a stab vest, an oversized police jacket and a gnome-like police beanie.

Of course, the Twitter community was quick to roast Johnson on his unusual attire, as was the creator of police drama series Line of Duty Jed Mercurio, who went as far as ‘thanking’ him for his Line of Duty audition.

He wrote: “Thank you for submitting your audition for the next series of #LineofDuty but we’re looking for a character with at least one redeeming moral principle and a performance that places even just a scintilla of doubt in the audience’s mind that he might not be totally bent.”

Line of Duty fans revelled in Mercurio’s scathing joke, with one person replying, “This is the best thing I’ve seen for a while,” and another writing: “And today Jed Mercurio owns Twitter, the end.”

The Prime Minister was shadowing officers on their raid in a bid to promote the Government’s new ten year drugs strategy aimed at cracking down on crime related to drugs gangs and to addicts funding their habits.

He told broadcasters in Liverpool: “I take the view that it is a long time really since you heard a government say that drugs – Class A drugs – are bad and bad for society, bad for opportunity, bad for kids growing up in this country.

“That’s my view, and I think it is something we can tackle, something we can deal with.”
