A man with a very healthy obsession with the 1990s has spent £5K transforming his home and his wardrobe to resemble the decade – VHS players and corded telephones included.

Twenty-three Jack Walters has taken the ‘born in the wrong era’ philosophy to a whole new level with the transformation of his humble abode in Bakewell, Derbyshire, and his obsession has led him to spend around £5,000 on pre-millennium items such as vintage Levi jeans and Sweater Shop jumpers.

Jack, who works as an illustrator, initially began his project by attempting to recreate the ‘cosiness’ of his parents’ family home, saying he never enjoyed the modern style of home decoration.

The three-bedroom cottage Jack lives in with his parents and his partner, Matthew, was a ‘blank canvas’ when they moved in two years ago, so Jack quickly began scouring charity shops and eBay for decor with the ’90s vibe he loved.

And, as he grew his collection, friends and family also started to gift him ’90s-inspired items they thought he’d like.

Jack’s home is now full of Ikea catalogues from 1997, old Nokia phones and a bulky, square laptop displaying Windows ’95, Men Behaving Badly video boxsets and Now That’s What I Call Music cassette tapes. You know, from the good old days.

Though Jack does admit that not every aspect of his life is true to the 90s, with him making use of modern appliances such as a dishwasher and, of course, wifi.

But he still looks the part, so that’s all that matters in my opinion.

Jack uses his TikTok account to showcase his unique home and other 90s inspired adventures, and has since gained thousands of followers who seem to be as in love with the era as he is.

One person commented: “I watch 90s commercials/leave them playing in the background”, while another proclaimed: “This is literally my childhood kitchen.”
