Marcus Rashford has joined forces with celebrity chef Tom Kerridge to create a £10 Christmas dinner capable of feeding six people.

The Manchester United footballer, who received an MBE for his fight against child poverty last month, was inspired to help those struggling to afford a proper Christmas dinner after his own mum Melanie had been forced to visit food banks over Christmas when he was younger.

So as part of his Full Time Meals project launched with Tom Kerridge, a budget Christmas dinner recipe worth just £10 in Healthy Start vouchers has been curated specifically for those relying on food banks this Christmas.

The two-meal menu comes complete with a turkey roll with stuffing and tray baked vegetables, with enough to make a left-over potato and carrot hash on Boxing Day.

Kerridge demonstrated how to prepare the meal in a video shared onto the Full Time Meals social media channels, where he added that anyone not using the vouchers would still only pay around £13 for the ingredients.

Speaking to ITV News, Rashford said: “Christmas has a great ability to bring family together and I want as many children as possible to wake up on Christmas morning happy and without the stress of wondering where their next meal is coming from.”

Kerridge added: “I hope the recipes we have created are useful and that they will bring awareness of the Healthy Start Voucher many families are entitled to.”

The menu comes as part of an ongoing campaign the pair have been involved with in partnership food waste and hunger charity FareShare.

A charity spokesperson said it was aimed at ending food poverty and equipping children with ‘vital life and cookery skills to support seamless navigation into adult life’.
