Marcus Rashford announced his engagement to childhood sweetheart Lucia Loi in a heartwarming social media post late last night.
The Manchester United star shared a photograph on his Instagram, revealing how he set up a romantic stage for the proposal in Los Angeles.
The pair were seen kissing in front of a giant heart-shaped arch and a floral bed made of hundreds of white roses, surrounded by fairy lights and column candles.
The footballer captioned the photo with the date they got engaged – Tuesday May 24th – alongside a white heart emoji.
Rashford’s teammates were quick to share their congratulations and well wishes, with the official Manchester United Instagram account commenting: “So happy for you both!”
Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Devonte Redmond sent a ‘massive congrats’ to both Rashford and Loi, while fellow Manchester United star James Garner commented with a red heart emoji and added: “Congratulations bro.”
Manchester United defender Ro-Shaun Williams also hinted that he had been there to celebrate the couple’s engagement, writing: “What a night brother.”
The couple met as teenagers at Ashton-on-Mersey school and first started dating at the age of fifteen, though after eight years together in May 2021, they separated amid the Covid pandemic.
A source at the time said the pair split as a result of ‘lockdown pressures’, and still had ‘mutual love and respect’ for one another.
They said: “The intent for them to get back together has always been there. The break was good for their relationship as it offered them both space and assurance that they wanted to make this work moving forward.
On rekindling of their relationship at the end of last year, the source added: “They have a shared history. She is one of the people who knows him best. They got back together before Christmas and are taking things slowly.
“But they make each other happy and he knows she is loyal and he can trust her.”
