Martin Lewis has offered three simple tips to reduce energy bills as the cost-of-living crisis looms over millions of households.
The Money Saving Expert founder took to TikTok this week to explain why hundreds of pounds will soon be added to annual energy bills, outlining that the price cap of £1,277 is set to rise to £1,971.
Millions of people are understandably concerned about the impending hike in energy costs, so Lewis broke down three helpful tips that could keep bills as low as possible.
In his TikTok video, Lewis outlined three different things that people can do to lower their energy cost, breaking down his tips into prepay users, direct debit users and how residents can claim a £150 council tax rebate.
My heart just sank doing my @thismorning phone in just then – as it does almost every time I hear 'energy bills' right now.
So many people understandably unable to process the scale of the increases and unable to meet the price. It is depressing and dangerous.
Lewis said: “Well for the scheme, we’re being told you will get the money automatically paid into your bank account, as long as you pay council tax by direct debit.”
He then urged people to set up a direct debit as soon as possible with their local council to avoid disappointment.
Martin Lewis’ other tips for saving money on energy bills include:
Consider getting a fixed tariff that is no more than 40% above the price cap
Improve insulation in your home
Turn the thermostat and radiators down
Think about budgeting everyday costs
Use your smart meter and take regular meter readings
Speak to your energy provider now if you are struggling to pay your bills
