A teaser clip has shown Matt Hancock squealing and squirming during his first Bushtucker Trial ahead of tonight’s episode of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The former Health Secretary will make his debut in the jungle tonight and will be immediately put through his paces in an intense trial alongside campmate Sean Walsh.

The trial, named aptly ‘Beastly Burrows’, will see the pair trudge through a tunnel in total darkness while being covered in filthy slurry and hoards of creepy crawlies.

In the teaser clip released by ITV today, Hancock seemingly takes the lead by entering the tunnel first.

However, as he makes his way towards the first golden star he is doused in a stream of slurry, which causes him to shriek and squirm as he attempts to make his way through the tunnel.

While Hancock appeared to be close to securing a gold star – and ultimately a meal for his campmates – viewers will have to wait until tonight’s episode at 9pm to find out how many stars he takes back to camp.

The MPs appearance on the show has sparked a huge wave of controversy this past week, with many slamming his policies and actions during the Covid pandemic.

Over 40,000 people have even signed a petition to get Hancock axed from the reality series altogether, pointing out that he is not a celebrity but ‘the health secretary who oversaw the UK having one of the highest death tolls in the world from Covid whilst breaking his own lockdown rules’.

However, Hancock has defended his decision to go into the jungle, saying he is doing so in order to ‘dispel misconceptions about what politicians are really like’.

He said: “Lots of people have a view on me from being Health Secretary in the pandemic dealing with some very difficult issues, but that’s not the whole story.

“I am looking forward to throwing myself into it all like I do everything in life. You can’t hide anything in the jungle, you see somebody warts and all.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here airs tonight on ITV at 9pm.
