Miller and Carter has revealed why they serve a wedge of iceberg lettuce alongside the meat mains.
The chain has venues on King St in the city centre, and across Greater Manchester in Stockport, Bury and Wigan and is a favourite amongst many diners across the region.
When you order a steak at Miller and Carter, you also get a wedge of iceberg lettuce to accompany it, but customers often wonder why?
Well now the award-winning ‘masters of steak’ have answered that very question lingering on diner’s lips.
In a post on Facebook the steak chain wrote: “Wedgucation (education about our wedge).”
It said the role of its lettuce wedge is to be enjoyed as ‘a refreshing appetiser which perfectly complements the rich flavours of our steak’.
The wedges come with five different toppings; Bacon & Honey Mustard, Caesar & Garlic Croutons, Long Clawson Stilton & Blue Cheese, Garlic Mayonnaise & Grana Padano and Classic Vinaigrette.
The restaurant chain added: “The wedge provides a cold crisp texture to accompany our steak. Iceberg lettuce also helps our digestive system break down heavy proteins and carbohydrates.”
Reacting to the ‘wedgucation’ on Facebook, it is clear diners are big fans of the leafy snack, with one person writing: “Love the iceberg at millers.”
A second person penned: “Always polished off before my steak arrives…yummy.”
Another put: “So there is a specific reason for the wedge! This is making me want to go back even more so!”
And a fourth fan chimed in: “Can’t wait for another lettuce wedge.”
As another agreed: “The wedge is the best!”
A fifth person posted: “Well there we go. Our question is answered.” And a sixth added: “Makes perfect sense now.”
So, not only is it refreshing with a high water content, the wedge of iceberg also helps our digestive system break down heavy proteins and carbohydrates – it does make perfect sense now.
