A passenger was recently caught sending a text message that said she had Covid while onboard an airplane.

The unidentified woman was exposed by Reddit user byu/tristydotj, who took a photograph from the seat behind her as she typed out her text message.

While part of the screen isn’t visible in the photo, the part of the text that can be seen reads: “We have Covid…shhh. That’s why we’re coming home a day [unknown]. On the plane.”

Another photograph that has since been deleted showed more of the text message, which revealed that woman was no stranger to a bit of Covid deception.

The text message read: “When we got to the hockey game last night you either had to have proof of a vaccine or a negative test. We had neither so this guy let me sneak in…”.

It isn’t currently known where the flight was from or bound for, nor who the woman was.

The Reddit post, which was captioned ‘Caught this woman sitting in front of me on a plane sending some very alarming texts’, was quick to go viral with thousands of people expressing their shock and outrage at the woman’s behaviour.

One person commented: “Why would you go out knowing you have the potential to harm others and possibly make them sick. That’s not very empathetic.”

Another wrote: “I would have snitched so fast to the flight attendants. OMG. Like they would have to walk home if I saw that.”

As it stands, travellers arriving into England are not legally required to take pre-departure Covid tests. They are instead instructed to take a lateral flow test within two days of arrival, with the requirement to self-isolate upon arrival being lifted last week.

If travellers receive a positive lateral flow, however, a further PCR test will be needed to identify any new variants, plus isolation as normal.
