In what could be the most British dispute of all time, a social media user has claimed they have been banned from their own street after refusing to chip in for the Jubilee street party.
Taking to Reddit yesterday, the anonymous person asked if it was ‘allowed’ for them to be banned from their street after not contributing to the upcoming Jubilee street party on Friday.
In the thread, they explained that they had received a letter through the door explaining that they couldn’t leave their home at any point during the day the street party is being held.
The post read: “So 2 weeks ago the topic of the Jubilee can up with my Neighbour [sic] and they asked for £14 per household so they could buy 17kg of Chicken for the party.
“I refused, neighbour went off running his mouth, but i didn’t think anything of it.”
Then, the neighbour allegedly posted a letter instructing them to remain in their house throughout the duration of the day while the party takes place.
They said the letter claimed ‘council men’ would be sent round if they were to leave the house at any point, with the person adding: “Is this legal? Are the council really on their side?
“I have paid my council tax using the 10 payments method for the last seven years.”
The Reddit post has, quite understandably, garnered a strong reaction, with the majority of social media users slamming the ‘unreasonable’ decision to ban the neighbour from leaving their house.

One person offered some very sensible advice by stating: “You can leave your house, and they cannot block access to your drive. If you need to leave and they try to prevent you tell them it is an emergency, if they refuse, call the police and film them in case it escalates.
“Best of luck, but really they can’t do that to you.”
Another user wrote: “I work for the council and getting a call like this would absolutely make my day. Kind of gutted I’ve booked the week off.”
A third, practical user wrote: “Go to KFC, buy the largest box of chicken and sit outside with a hand made jubilee flag eating the best (crispiest) chicken down the street.”
KFC and a Jubilee flag… That doesn’t sound like the worst party in the world.
