Piers Morgan has criticised Kirstie Allsopp for her comments on young people buying houses, branding them as ‘unbelievably stupid’ and ‘woefully privileged’.

Over the weekend, the Location, Location, Location presenter came under fire for claiming that young people can buy their own homes if they give up ‘luxuries’ like gym memberships and weekday coffees.

Speaking to The Times, Allsopp expressed her ‘enragement’ regarding young people who claim they can’t afford a home, saying they could if they simply ‘give up luxuries and move up north’.

She said: “When I bought my first property, going abroad, the easyJet, coffee, gym, Netflix lifestyle didn’t exist… I used to walk to work with a sandwich. And on payday I’d go for a pizza, and to a movie, and buy a lipstick. Interest rates were 15%, I was earning £11,500 a year.”

She also said that things such as film-streaming services, overseas holidays and regular gym visits are all taken as standard parts of their lifestyle by today’s young, saying: “I do think you have to ask yourself what your degree is giving you.

“Could you get a job at eighteen, stay at home with [your] parents for three years, and save every single penny, enough for a deposit?”

However, the newspaper pointed out that Allsopp is the daughter of millionaire Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip, and bought her first property with family help at the age of twenty-one when the average house price in the UK was about £51,000.

This factor triggered a huge public backlash against the property presenter, with many criticising her for being ‘tone-deaf’ and ‘privileged’.

And Piers Morgan was among those criticising Allsopp, with him taking to Twitter to condemn her ‘ludicrously ill-informed’ comments.

The former Good Morning Britain host wrote: “Every time Kirstie Allsopp trends, I check why and see she’s said another unbelievably stupid, ludicrously ill-informed and woefully privileged thing.”

He then referenced her history of deactivating her Twitter account, noting: “Then I wait for her to respond to the entirely justified outrage by throwing her toys out of the pram & quitting Twitter again.”

Kirstie has continued to suggest there was misreporting around her original remarks and also hit back at Piers, who she has publicly clashed with previously.

She tweeted: “Piers Morgan is repulsive bully who would attach himself to any passing bandwagon.
