In what could be the most Black Mirror scenario ever, a tech firm is offering a hefty sum of money for someone to hand over their identity to a robot.
Promobot is in the process of manufacturing state-of-the-art ‘hyper realistic’ robots to work as assistants, and they want to base them off real people to look that extra bit lifelike.
So, the company has said it will pay someone over the age of twenty-five, of any race or gender and with a ‘kind and friendly’ appearance to sell their face and voice to be used on the robots, which will be put to work in hotels, shops and other crowded environments.

And the successful candidate won’t just need to send in a few selfies and voice notes; they will instead be required to take a 3D model of their face and body for the robot’s body. Then, at least 100 hours of speech material will need to be obtained in order to copy the voice, which will be used by the machine to communicate with customers.
After that, the winning applicant will have to ‘sign a license agreement’ that allows ‘the use of your appearance for an unlimited period’. The new robot will then start its activities in 2023.
Promobot says on its website: “Our company is developing technologies in the field of facial recognition, as well speech, autonomous navigation, artificial intelligence and other areas of robotics.
“Since 2019, we have been actively manufacturing and supplying humanoid robots to the market.

“Our new clients want to launch a large-scale project, and as for this, they need to license a new robot appearance to avoid legal delays.”
Promobot already uses robots in forty-three countries, all of which work in customer service roles such as administrators, promoters, consultants, guides and concierges. While some reports state Promobot is a Russian startup, it’s offices are listed in New York and Hong Kong.
It’s robots are allegedly found in Walmart, Baltimore-Washington Airport and Dubai Mall.
