It’s a debate as old as time; just how often should we be changing our bed sheets?
While many pride themselves on religiously changing their bedding every two weeks, others aren’t as dedicated to staying on top of their chores, with some being more than happy to leave them on for three or even four weeks at a time.
And remarkably, a survey from Hammonds found that a third of Brits only wash their sheets once a year.
But according to the experts over at Sleep Foundation, bedding needs to be washed a hell of a lot more than this.

In news that could be eyeopening to many, the Sleep Foundation claims that bedding often needs to be washed once a week – though this could sometimes be stretched to once every two weeks for those who wear pyjamas and tend not to sweat so much.
And those who have pets are advised to clean their sheets every 3-4 days.
But for those who are still unsure as to how often their bedding needs a spruce up, luxury bed linen retailer Secret Linen Store has claimed to hold the answer thanks to their new ‘Clean Sheets’ Calculator.
The nifty calculator provides users with a personalised recommendation on how often to wash their bed linen based on their individual bedtime routines and personal lifestyle.

It takes into account factors like whether they share their bed with their pets, how many times they shower and whether they eat a lot of food in bed.
Molly Freshwater, founder of Secret Linen Store, said: “The truth is that most of us don’t wash our sheets every week, and that’s totally fine.
“We wanted to create a tool that reassures people that it’s OK to leave a little longer between your bed washes.
“How often you wash your bedsheets is completely dependent on how much usage they get, which is why we created a calculator to give people bespoke bed washing advice based on their individual habits.”
