The driver must’ve been dunk driving…

Recovery services were tasked with the unlikely job of cleaning up thousands of spilled biscuits when a lorry carrying a large delivery of McVitie’s overturned.

Packets of Digestives, Ginger Nuts and Bourbons were scattered across a road in Derbyshire after falling out of boxes stored inside the lorry, causing delays for drivers on Monday night.

The Erewash Response team took the challenge in their stride, however, and even saw the opportunity to share some good, old-fashioned biscuit puns.

They wrote on Twitter: “Please bear with us this evening whilst we try and ‘digest’ this issue. A lorry load of McVitie’s’ finest have decided to abandon ship causing a slight obstruction!”

Fortunately, locals were able to see the funny side of the unusual obstruction, and even joined in on the biscuit pun fun.

One social media user wrote: “Drove past earlier with a cup of tea, got done for dunk driving.”

Another person said: “Crumbs that looks bad! I hear traffic is being diverted on to the party ring road.”

While a third person added: “McSlippies I love those biscuits especially if they fell off the back of a lorry.”

Putting questionable biscuit jokes to one side, the Erewash Response team later shared that ‘the big boys with big toys’ from Crouch Recovery had arrived to help finish off the clean up.

They wrote on Twitter: “These experts will have it sorted in no time.”

McVitie’s is yet to comment on the incident.
