Top ten ‘worst places to live’ in UK for 2023 revealed and they’re nearly all down south

Just in case you were wondering, here are the top 50 ‘worst’ cities, places and towns to live in England in 2023, according to I Live Here.

In a poll conducted by website I Live Here, 105,598 people voted for the worst area in the country to live in 2023, and the results are in. There is a new winner of this undesirable title and you might be shocked to learn that it’s nowhere in Greater Manchester. 

Surprisingly, the very worst places on the list were nearly all down south and not the usual suspects – except for Bradford coming in at number 10. As for our region, Bolton was listed as 34, Manchester as 43 and Wigan fell up the stairs and landed at number 44.

Apparently, the new number one location has been lingering around the top 10 list like a bad smell for quite a while. It was only a matter of time before this not-so-beauty spot was crowned Stig of all the dumps.

Let’s see who’s on the list…

10. Bradford

Situated in lovely West Yorkshire, this industrial city is the only Northern one to make it into the top 10.

“The land of dreams, if you dream of pound shops and takeaways.”

9. Bournemouth

A coastal resort in Dorset, you’d think Bournemouth would be a lovely place to spend a day at the beach. Wrong, apparently.

“If you come down from anywhere inland, expecting a pleasant, sunny day at the beach, then you’re a fool.”

8. Swindon

Another southern town, in at number eight is Swindon.

“A town shat from the arse of Satan himself.” A bit harsh, but okay.

7. Andover

Part of the posh county of Hampshire, Andover must stick out like a sore thumb.

 “Andover has to be the most depressing town in the northern hemisphere.”

6. Aldershot

Also in Hampshire, one voter wasn’t too keen.

“From the Burger King car park sound offs to the ‘designer’ outlet stores, this place really oozes chav from every concrete pore.”

5.  Aylesbury

Situated in central England and known for its Jacobean and Tudor buildings, Aylesbury took 5th place.

“Being stuck in the traffic really allows you to observe the magnificent beauty of all the ‘trashy citizens’ that live there.”

4. Slough

Not the most picturesque of suburbs, people didn’t hold back.

“If the earth ever requires an enema, Slough is undoubtedly where the tube will be inserted.”

3. Portsmouth

Another southern seaside town made it into the top three.

“Portsmouth was an island and I bet people are wondering why they connected it to the mainland and didn’t just let it drift away.”

2. Peterborough

A cathedral city situated in Cambridgeshire, someone isn’t a fan of Peterborough – which has previously come in at number one before.

“Peterborough should have been destroyed during WW2, but even Hitler and Goring didn’t think it was worth bothering with.”

And, the area that snatched the throne, coming in at number one is home of the Hatters… 

1. LUTON

In at the top spot is the home of the Hatters, with someone having to say about it: “The town itself is not easy on the eye. It makes Slough comparable to the Playboy tax exile haven of Monaco.”

Errm, congratulations?
