The woman who Peter Kay is raising money for with his upcoming live shows has spoken out about the impact he has had upon her life.
Last week, it was announced that the Bolton-born comedian would be returning to the stage after two years out of the spotlight with two live shows next month.
Kay confirmed that the shows, called ‘Doing it for Laura’, will be happening at Manchester’s O2 Apollo on August 7th, at 1:30pm and 6:30pm, and will be raising money for twenty-year-old Laura Nuttall, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain tumour, Glioblastoma multiforme, in October 2018.
The University of Manchester student has survived almost two years longer than the twelve months doctors gave her, and money from the upcoming events will go towards paying for life-saving treatment.
And today, Laura appeared on ITV’s This Morning with her mum Nicola to discuss the comedian’s selfless and ‘life saving’ act. Explaining how she knows Kay, she began: “So he [Kay] knew my father back when he used to work with him at Granada and he has been out for a couple of meals with us over the years.
“And once he saw the news item that we did, he recognised my dad in it and went, ‘What can I do to help?'”

Laura explained that her family had been ‘slogging away’ at fundraising for her treatment – immunisation in Germany – but it is ‘phenomenally expensive.’
“So having this from Peter just takes the pressure off so much,” she added.
Since they have been back in touch with the comedian, Nicola says they have been out to the pub with Kay twice where, instead of talking about Laura’s illness and treatment, they ‘laugh our heads off.’
She said: “He’s just the best company.”
