A proud mum has shared the news of her savvy son on a budgeting Facebook group.

Emma Travers challenged her son to do an entire shop for the week to teach him about ‘looking after himself’ and budgeting.

Tyler, who is just nine years old, managed to buy enough food for breakfast, dinner and tea, plus pantry staples and even snacks for just £7.54.

The proud mum shared her sons savvy shopping on the Feed Yourself for £1 a Day Facebook group.

She wrote: “Back to home school day! Tylor (9) got up early today to help me do some food shopping so we decided to make a challenge whilst at it!

“He had to do a weeks worth of food for himself for as little as possible and he did this for £7.54!!

“Although he’ll always be able to come to me if stuck, I know from experience pride can stop that! So it’s important to me he knows how to look after himself on a tight budget.”

She also added details of his meals for the week and exactly how much each item cost.

Adding: “Only thing not accounted for is butter but there’s always butter in our fridge and it lasts for weeks!”

The meal plan includes seven breakfasts with a choice of crumpets, toast with jam or a bowl of fruit.

There were also seven lunches with a choice of spaghetti on toast or jam sandwiches and seven teas includes two meals worth of southern fried chicken wraps, chicken tikka wraps and tuna pasta with mayo. There’s also one meals worth of chicken noodles.

The post got tonnes of support from other parents who praised the approach to teaching how to budget and food shop.
