The BBC has confirmed its hit show The Traitors will return for a second series as casting has now opened for the public to apply.
Presenter Claudia Winkleman will again host the new series of the psychological reality show. The Traitors became one of the broadcaster’s biggest hits as it drew in over 34m viewers last year. Proving popular amongst younger audiences, it stole the top spot as the highest rated entertainment programme since 2017.
This tense 12-part series is a reality adventure competition where 22 strangers are moved into a castle set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Together they will play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust as they complete a series of challenges and missions as a team, but compete against each other to win £120,000.
Happy to be back for another round of traitors and faithfuls, Claudia said: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”
Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, said: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant Team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense.
“We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the traitors and the Faithfuls.”
Stephen Lambert, CEO of producers Studio Lambert, said: “We were delighted that so many viewers of BBC One and BBC iPlayer loved the first season. They told us they enjoyed the drama and entertainment of watching our players judge each other, often leaping to false conclusions, but also forming alliances and real friendships.
“We’re excited to be making a second season with Claudia as together we build on the success of the first.”
Hopefuls have until July 31st to sign up, and they can choose whether they’d rather be a Traitor or a Faithful. Which one would you be? If you think you have what it takes and would like to be in the second series, you can apply via BBC Take Part.
