David Schwimmer is on the lineup for the Stand Up to Cancer celebrity edition of the Great British Bake Off.

The Friends actor, who played Ross Geller, is among a star-studded list of celebrities who are appearing on the much-loved Channel 4 baking competition show.

Also set to join is Bolton actor and presenter Paddy McGuinness, Radio 1’s Adele Roberts, TOWIE star Gemma Collins, former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson, TV presenter AJ Odudu, The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades, Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan, and Olympic swimmer Tom Daly — plus many more.

While the lineup is mainly full of familiar faces you’d expect to see on British Bake off, David Schwimmer is the one name that has us all star-struck.

The 56-year-old US actor who played Rachel Green’s goofy but adorable love interest and Monica’s brother, will be the glacier cherry to the top of a freshly baked cake. He will be making his way to join the famous lot in the tent later this year. The series will see 20 stars in total competing to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and win the coveted title of Star Baker.

To make you even more surprised, Schwimmer was already supposed to have appeared in the celebrity special of the hit baking reality TV show a few years back, but he had to pull out of filming right at the last minute.

It comes after the star revealed in an interview that he’s a huge Bake Off fan, telling Radio Times back in 2020: “It’s competitive, but everyone’s so lovely with each other. It’s so not American!”

After the lineup was unveiled on Tuesday, fans have been taking to social media to share their excitement at Schwimmer’s unexpected inclusion. One fan tweeted: “You managed to get actual David Schwimmer? Ridiculous!!!”

Another fan simply wote: “DAVID SCHWIMMER!!!!!” and a third person commented: “… and David Schwimmer!! Wait! What???”

Plenty of Friends jokes and references were also made, of course, as one fan joked: “I wonder if @davidschwimmer will mix the talc with the lotion to form a paste.” Another replied: “I read ‘paste’ in the high pitch voice he does so well.”

Someone else remarked: “Is that the guy who robbed the beer from the store?” — a joke referencing the time CCTV images were released of a thief stealing beer from a shop in Blackpool, which everyone said looked like David Schwimmer’s doppelganger.
