Matt Hancock cries on live TV saying vaccination ‘makes you so proud to be British’ 

Matt Hancock was reduced to tears during an appearance on GMB this morning, following the news of the first Covid-19 vaccine. 

90-year-old Margaret Keenan became the first person to receive the vaccine this morning at 6:31am. Next in line at the University Hospital, Coventry was 81-year-old William “Bill” Shakespeare.

During the GMB show this morning, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid cut away from their chat with Matt Hancock as Bill spoke to the media for the first time. 

After hearing from Bill, Mr Hancock appeared visibly moved.

As he bowed his head and wiped tears from his eyes, Piers said to him ‘you’re quite emotional by that’.

His voice cracking, he replied: “It’s been such a tough year for so many people and there’s William Shakespeare putting it so simply for everybody that we can get on with our lives.”

He added: “There’s still a few months to go. I’ve still got this worry we can’t blow it now, Piers. We’ve still got to get the vaccine to millions of people and so we’ve got to keep sticking by the rules.

“But there’s so much work gone into this that I’m really, really… it makes you so proud to be British.”

Speaking for the first time, Bill said: “Groundbreaking I think. It could make the difference to our lives from now on, couldn’t it.

“It’s started changing our lives and our lives start.”

He said he has been locked down and his wife has only managed to get out to the local shops.
