Roxy Lanes and a new VR ‘Playbox’ are set to open in Manchester Arndale, making it a day-out destination.

It’s great news for fun-seekers as a brand new immersive digital adventure is set to open in Halle Place in the Arndale, the first for the company outside of London.

Electric Playbox is an entirely interactive digital room that features projection mapping, touch screens, motion tacking and surround sound for a hyper-immersive 60 minute adventure. There are loads of games to play from searching for aliens to saving the Queen’s corgis.

The Arndale is also set to get a new 14,000 sq ft Roxy Lanes, the company’s second site in Manchester, at Withy Grove on the site of the former Birdcage nightclub – the venue will feature activities like bowling, beer pong, pool and indoor golf.

Colin Flinn, regional managing director at intu, said the owners want to make the Arndale a day-out venue.

He added: “Manchester Arndale is an iconic city-centre destination and the introduction of Electric Playbox and Roxy Ballroom is a testament to the centre’s enduring success and popularity and its ability to adapt to new trends.

“Extending our leisure offer means we’re providing something people can’t just purchase online. These two venues are great additions to the dynamic mix of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities people can enjoy.”

Will Dean, co-founder of Electric Playbox, said: “Manchester is the perfect location for our second venue in the UK. Manchester Arndale sits in the heart of this vibrant city and we are confident customers will enjoy everything we have to offer.

“There’s a real buzz in Manchester and it has such a unique personality. We can’t wait to be part of the city’s spirted community and introduce Electric Playbox to the city.”

A spokesperson from Roxy Lanes, said: “We’ve always wanted to open a second site in the city and Manchester Arndale is a perfect location. It’s a great space for our customers to enjoy our fun and exciting activities we have in store.”

Both venues are expected to open at the start of August, in line with government advice, according to Property Week.

Roxy Ballroom on Deansgate is also open from August 1st and now has ping pong, mini golf, pool and shuffleboard!
