An immersive exhibition dedicated to the work of famed artist Vincent Van Gogh is coming to Salford’s Media City this autumn.

Described by the Sunday Times as ‘glorious, stunning, but also very moving,’ Van Gogh Alive allows guests to experience the artist in a multi-sensory art exhibition that gives a unique glimpse into the life and work of Van Gogh as you travel.

As different periods of the artists’ life are explored, over 3,000 images from his vast catalogue of work will be spectacularly presented with stunning detail, including iconic works like Starry Night, Sunflowers and lesser-known paintings that were inspired by his love of Japanese woodprints.

Using Sensory4 immersive gallery technology, Van Gogh’s work will be displayed in an immaculate kaleidoscope of colour alongside an evocative classical playlist delivered via a high-fidelity 3D sound system – this combination of sound, visuals and aromas of Provence will give visitors the sensation of walking right into his paintings as if they are living and breathing.

Van Gogh Alive is the world’s most visited immersive art exhibition, having mesmerised a global audience of over 8 million across seventy cities. So, of course, the news of the exhibition coming to Salford’s Media City has been widely celebrated.

Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor, said on the news: “It’s wonderful to be welcoming such an impactful art experience as Van Gogh Alive to Salford’s MediaCityUK.

“Communities have really missed experiencing arts and entertainment, with the hospitality and creative industries being amongst the hardest hit from the impacts of Covid-19, so it is brilliant to be seeing the creative industries launching new and innovative experiences for all to enjoy within a safe framework.”

Sounds a bit better than your old school trips to a dusty art gallery, doesn’t it?

The exhibition will be landing at Media City on October 22nd, and will run through until January 23rd, 2022.

It will also be supporting The Christie charity by using the experience as a platform to help raise funds to continue its work in cancer care, research, and education. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to make a donation to the charity when either purchasing tickets or while at the exhibition.

Tickets are now on sale, and are priced from £22.00 for adults and £15.00 for children, with concessions and school group discounts available.
